Noah Jackson is a Grammy-nominated musician born in Detroit and based in the Metro-Detroit area, proficient in bass, cello, composition, and teaching, spanning genres from jazz to classical, and funk to R&B. His interest in jazz music began with his involvement in the Civic Jazz Orchestra (affiliated with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra) under the tutelage of Marcus Belgrave and Prof. Rodney Whitaker with whom Noah eventually continued his studies at Michigan State University. Noah completed his graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music in New York City where his career and artistic development took off and has performed with many jazz luminaries like Winard Harper, Branford Marsalis, The Marsalis Family Band, Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela, and Kenny Garrett. He appeared at many major festivals worldwide including the London Jazz Festival, Joy of Jazz (Johannesburg, SA), Jazz @ Marciac, North Sea Jazz, and the Nice Jazz Festival. He also shared stages with Ravi Coltrane, Terrence Blanchard, and Terri Lynne Carrington.
Jackson's recording accomplishments include playing on Abdullah Ibrahim's "The Balance," which debuted at No.5 and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. He is also featured on Ibrahim's 2024 live album "3" and was the primary bassist for Nnenna Freelon's Grammy-nominated album "Time Traveler" in 2021.
As a composer, Jackson was commissioned in 2017 to create and perform original pieces at Grace Farms in New Canaan, CT in collaboration with the American Ballet Theater. He received two grants for performing Duke Ellington's "On A Turquoise Cloud" at the Schomburg Center in 2019. He also led a string quartet featuring the music of Florence Price as part of a salon series with the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2021.
Leading his band Full Circle, Jackson hosted a three-year residency at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, fostering local music community unity and showcasing original works. His band has performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival and Sosnick Courtyard, recorded "Contemplations: A Suite," and is preparing for a new album release in 2024.
